Well, today is day 45 of my extended juice feast. I just returned from Eden Hot Springs in Eden Arizona where I was at a raw food retreat with a wonderful group of people who are health and raw food enthusiasts. The Springs are absolutely healing and phenomenal. I was in them at least 3 or 4 times a day since it was a bit chilly but sunny. I have been going to Eden for 10 years now and have never explored the pools and tubs this much since I am usually the lead chef and don’t have the luxury of soaking this much. However, this time on my juice feast I decided to let myself nap, sunbathe and soak. On the 3rd night there, I experienced extreme pain in my kidneys. They were achy and I just could not get comfortable. I kept rubbing them and trying to move through the pain. After a good nights sleep the pain was gone and I felt much better. A couple other retreatants shared that they had also experienced kidney pains. We concluded that it must be from extended soaking in the tubs as the healing waters which are high in natural salts and waters tend to draw things from the body. I was plenty hydrated and peeing clear all weekend so it wasn’t dehydration. It was a healing in my kidneys. I am so curious what actually took place, and my intuition tells me it’s for sure a release of excess toxins.
I also had 2 colonics by Puma of Grace Grove while I was there and we saw a parasite in the form of a long worm pass out. Since I am not eating it was much easier to see what was coming out. Mostly old mucus and then that worm. I’ve never seen that before! I’m glad to know this juice feast is paying off.
Ever since Gabriel spoke about grapefruit and lowering blood sugar I have become fascinated with how it works and if it really does work. Today I googled ‘weight loss and insulin resistance’ and here is what came up:
The effects of grapefruit on weight and insulin resistance: relationship to the metabolic syndrome.
Division of Endocrinology, Department of Nutrition and Metabolic Research, Scripps Clinic, La Jolla, California 92130, USA. firstname.lastname@example.org
To study the effects of grapefruit and grapefruit products on body weight and metabolic syndrome, 91 obese patients were randomized to either placebo capsules and 7 ounces (207 mL) of apple juice, grapefruit capsules with 7 ounces (207 mL) of apple juice, 8 ounces (237 mL) of grapefruit juice with placebo capsule, or half of a fresh grapefruit with a placebo capsule three times a day before each meal. Metabolic syndrome parameters were measured at the beginning and end of 12 weeks. After 12 weeks, the fresh grapefruit group had lost 1.6 kg, the grapefruit juice group had lost 1.5 kg, the grapefruit capsule group had lost 1.1 kg, and the placebo group had lost 0.3 kg. The fresh grapefruit group lost significantly more weight than the placebo group (P < .05). A secondary analysis of those with the metabolic syndrome in the four treatment groups demonstrated a significantly greater weight loss in the grapefruit, grapefruit capsule, and grapefruit juice groups compared with placebo (P < .02). There was also a significant reduction in 2-hour post-glucose insulin level in the grapefruit group compared with placebo. Half of a fresh grapefruit eaten before meals was associated with significant weight loss. In metabolic syndrome patients the effect was also seen with grapefruit products. Insulin resistance was improved with fresh grapefruit. Although the mechanism of this weight loss is unknown it would appear reasonable to include grapefruit in a weight reduction diet.
I’m continuing to enjoy grapefruit juice and I do actually eat grapefruit on this juice feast as without the membranes it is mostly juice. I am really fine with it. I do the same with lemons and limes and they give me energy. I also feel they contribute to cleansing my liver.
While I was at Eden from Wednesday thru Sunday morning I didn’t bring any juice or veggies to juice so I brought my Quantum Greens Mix. It has wheatgrass, oatgrass, barley grass, chlorella, noni fruit and see, blue green algae and cilantro leaf. I felt really balanced and did not crave food much. On Thursday I fasted only on water from morning until evening and at night drank a quart of the Quantum Greens. I just shake a heaping TBS. in about 4 cups of water with vanilla or regular stevia extract and shake well. It is soooo good. It’s much easier than juicing that’s for sure. I can do this for a few days when I don’t have access to a juicer or am just feeling like taking it easy (not juicing that is). And speaking of juicing, I’ve stopped using my Green Star after the first 30 days and for the past 2 weeks have been just blending the celery and cucumbers, cilantro, parsley, kale, sprouts and whatever else calls to me with some water in the vitamix then strain it through the extra large nut milk bag. It’s so much more fun and easier to clean. The juice seems to remain in tact really well as it doesn’t separate for a good 12 hours after making it. I still make about 3 quarts at a time and put it in mason jars.
My favorite juice right now is:
2 heads of celery
1 bunch parsley or cilantro
Then I add in as much grapefruit juice as I want but I make that separately in a citrus juicer.
I’m still craving food and some days are easier than others, but I’m feeling so much love for my body and so much gratitude for everyone who is supporting me through this time, especially my beloved, Chris. He is such a wonderful support and encouraged me every day telling me how amazing I look and what a good job I’m doing. It’s absolutely life changing to have this kind of cheerleader in my corner. Thank you Chris! I love you!
See you soon!
Love and Bliss,
